Chicago Boudoir Studio – Natural Beauty in Boudoir Session.
I started my adventure with boudoir photography with many goals, objectives, hopes and dreams. One of them was to help women feel confident and beautiful in their own bodies. Another one was to break certain stereotypes of what boudoir photography is. Women often look at me in disbelief when I ask them if they were interested in a boudoir session. They look around uncertain if I was actually talking to them or someone else. And then comes the common question “Me???”.
As women we often doubt that we are beautiful just the way we are. Many of us look into mirrors and focus on their flaws instead of celebrating and appreciating themselves as a whole unique person. Today’s world has been become remarkably preoccupied with a certain canon of beauty and women often feel as if they do not fit into this narrow description of what it means to be beautiful these days. And this is where the first and probably most common stereotype about boudoir begins. Women tend to think that a sensual, feminine session that celebrates their body is only for those who fit into a certain, usually small size of clothing and have certain features that are considered appealing in today’s common perception of beauty. Let me tell you that this is completely wrong and inaccurate.
Boudoir does not discriminate against age, size or shape. You can look amazing despite your perceived flaws. Flaws make us unique, one of a kind, different than anyone else. Beauty begins with confidence and confidence comes from an inner place of self-acceptance and worthiness.
Another stereotype about boudoir is that you have to go through a major make over in order to look appealing and sexy in the pictures. Women sometimes feel resistant to the idea of boudoir thinking that they have to be glammed to perfection in order to look good in the pictures. The truth is that it is your choice. If glamourous make up and lingerie boost your confidence and help you feel comfortable, by any means, go for it. However, I am here to tell you that there is nothing more appealing than the natural, unconstrained beauty. Naturally looking face with only minimal amount of make-up creates the unique sense of candid grace that looks absolutely stunning in pictures.
Photographs of Arianna that you can see below perfectly reflect the idea of raw beauty in boudoir. Arianna’s face looks fresh, you can see her freckles and naturally looking lips. Spring sun only adds to this candid appearance by providing natural light and accentuating certain features. Also, the breeze outside plays with her hair creating a more dynamic and ethereal appearance.
During spring and summer time, we can add that wonderful spin to your boudoir session by taking some shots outside. Pure Boudoir studio has access to a rooftop with breathtaking views of the city.
Female / Boudoir photography is about you and what makes you feel confident and beautiful. It is a very flexible experience and you can experiment with different looks. From natural to glamorous, let yourself discover your most confident self.

An Extraordinary Story of Feminine Strength and Resilience. Chicago Boudoir Session.
Once in a while we hear stories of monumental value. Stories that are so touching and memorable that they become a part of ourselves. Journey that tear us apart and change perspective. When I answered my phone that Saturday morning in early February, I was not prepared to hear one of such scenario.
I got a phone call from Mardi who told me she was looking for a boudoir session to capture her body before she had a breast removal surgery. She said she was diagnosed with invasive form of breast cancer in December and was scheduled for mastectomy in February. I was so deeply moved that I was stumbling on words. We scheduled the session and went over some details. I could not stop thinking of Mardi for the next two weeks.
I knew that this was not going to be an ordinary session.
That morning I was very nervous. As I was sipping coffee and getting ready to leave, I realized I felt overwhelmed with the sense of responsibility for the upcoming session. Subconsciously, I wanted to deliver and not disappoint my client. Typically, I feel confident in my skills but that day my confidence escaped me. I arrived at my West Loop studio and took a very deep breath. Soon after I got to meet Mardi in person. She was stunning. And unlike me, she seemed very relaxed. We chatted for a while and soon it became obvious, I was a witness to a very powerful story of resilience and inspiration.
Mardi was a warrior. I quickly realized this was not going to be a pity party but a true celebration of her body and who she was. She was approaching the remarkable rite of passage with so much dignity and grace. I felt privileged to witness and capture that important moment of her life.
I nervously picked up the camera. My hands were still shaking as I was holding it. Something very important and very personal was happening in front of my eyes. A manifestation of beauty, presence, strength and dignity. And in the depths of its intimacy, it was also very human. My “warrior” was so captivating and authentic that her strength naturally reflected in the images. Her portraits are vibrant and beautiful.
When I first started my journey with boudoir photography, I wanted to help women feel confident and comfortable with their bodies. Little did I know that soon I was going to become a part of a remarkable journey through other women’s extraordinary lives and experiences. I am honored and grateful to be able to tell their inspiring stories as they unfold in front of the eyes of my camera.
Mardi’s story is an excellent example of the powerful nature of boudoir photography that goes beyond the common assumptions of vanity and shallowness. Boudoir can be very liberating and cathartic. It is also a wonderful way to capture and celebrate your body the way it is in the here and now. As women, we go through times and experiences that can be tremendously difficult for us and therefore it is essential to remind ourselves of self-kindness. A boudoir session can be a great gift to ourselves during life hurdles that will remind us of our strength and beauty despite the circumstances.
Natural Light Boudoir Photography – Chicago

Natural Light Boudoir Photography – Play of Light and Shadow.
Women often ask if I’m a miracle worker. They look at their natural light boudoir photographs in disbelief that the alluring reflections in the pictures are their very own. “Is this really me?”- they ask. They often say that they are surprised by how fabulous they look. We search for perceived flaws in the pictures and have difficulty finding them. “My nose doesn’t even look that big! And my thighs look slimmer!”- they say. No, I am not a miracle worker. But I learned to work with natural light and lighting can be quite miraculous when it comes to boudoir photography.
Lighting is an essential part of professional boudoir photography. It is a powerful tool that can transform the image, accentuate it and define it.
In my boudoir sessions, I work with natural light to define the shape and create the mood of the photographs. Natural day light can enhance certain elements of the body and make them more defined. Some images focus more on facial expressions or facial features and since those elements are the focal points of the photograph, they require more direct, accentuating light. Using shallow depth of field I can still soften other elements of the image and focus only on those that need exposure.
Boudoir photography is a constant play of light and shadows to create the desired effect of sensuality. I enjoy playing with shadows in particular as they can beautifully enfold the curves and lines of the female body. Shadows can highlight and emphasize or diverse attention from. They can help conceal imperfections or bring out the elements that you want to expose.
When used appropriately, natural light and shadows create an ambiance of mystery and intimacy that you can often see in my photographs. Because shadows can gracefully mask or hide certain elements of the body, they fire viewer’s imagination and create a sensual feast. The images become a celebration of human form rather than overly exposed nakedness. Shadows soften the image and create a seductive mood.
The position of the body is also an important element of the boudoir photography that always goes hand in hand with appropriate lighting. Women often worry that they do not know how to pose for the camera. As a photographer, I understand their worries completely and always assist in finding the most favorable positions of the body. I photograph each pose from various perspectives to find the most flattering angle.
In short, I use the power of shadows and perspective to bring out the most attractive and flattering elements of female body so that you can look at your images and applaud yourself for the beauty that you are.
And this is as miraculous as it gets…
